Abstract

Critical thinking and creative thinking are important dimension in education, including in science education. The purpose of this study is to explore the position of critical and creative thinking skills in science education. The method used in this study is a literature review of books and articles that discuss critical thinking skills and creative thinking skills in science education. Literature is obtained from various indexing agencies such as Google Scholar, Scopus, Sage and other indexing agencies. The results of this study found that critical and creative thinking are often seen as two opposite skills. Critical thinking is convergent, while creative thinking is divergent. If viewed from Bloom's taxonomy, creative thinking is considered the highest thinking skill (creating C6), while critical thinking skills are at the lower level (analyzing C4 and evaluating C5). Students cannot think creatively without doing critical activities, such as analyzing and evaluating activities. The scientific process is a dimension for directing students to obtain aspects of the product and values or attitudes of science. The results of this study can reconceptualize the position of critical and creative thinking skills in science education. Keywords: creative thinking, critical thinking, science education
